Roger’s life and ministry is so diverse, interesting, and inspiring – there is not enough room to share even part of the blessed story of his life and how he has shared his gifts for the reign of God. He graduated from Manhattan School of Music where he received a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey where he majored in Music Education with a concentration in piano and voice. He has toured nationally and internationally with The Boys Choir of Harlem and has worked with them as a conductor, pianist, instructor and arranger for several of their recordings. Roger served as Minister of Music at Our Lady of Charity Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York for 12 years and is Liturgical Music Consultant for the New York Archdiocese Office of Black Ministry and Music Director for their special masses at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. He also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary and served as their Artist-in-Residence and director of their gospel choir for 13 years. The total inventory of his involvement in liturgical music, musical theatre, musical performance goes on and on and on. Roger served as the minister of music at Our Lady of Charity Church in Brooklyn for 12 years, as well as being the liturgical music consultant for the Office of Black Ministry in the Archdiocese of New York. The list of accomplishments and awards go on endlessly.
A published composer and recording artist for GIA Publications, Roger has just recently taken on an amazing new adventure at the University of Denver as an assistant professor in sacred music and ethnomusicology, and as the director of the “Spirituals Project,” an amazing response to the need for education about the spirituals tradition and their history, which includes not only a formal program of study, but the presence of a 40 voice choir of people representing a wide array of ethnic backgrounds, ages, and spiritual traditions. Roger is doing some amazing work with this venture and also, through his growth for us all. I encourage everyone to become familiar with Roger and his work – we are more blessed as a singing church due to his passion, talent, and commitment. God is so very good, indeed! (DH: 3.12.18)
Please consider when ordering any of these resources, to choose, whenever possible, ordering directly from the particular publisher (the link for each item is usually provided), rather than going to Amazon or similar outlets. When you order from these distributors, the royalties for the composer, as well as the publisher, are greatly compromised, as a substantial portion of the royalties go to the ordering source. The options to order from Amazon are provided here in many cases (and obviously in some cases, certain items may be out of print from the publisher), but most often, you should be able to obtain these resources from the specific publisher. So, think about it … choose differently, support the composers and authors who have created these resources, and click on the links provided here to order directly from the publisher.
